Hey college students! I want to tell you about this futon/lounger made by Kodiak which I found on Amazon. While you do have many options for futons, this one is not only the highest rated, but doesn’t have any 1 or 2 star reviews. The majority of stars it has are 5. But that’s not the only reason why we’re suggesting this futon. Keep reading to learn about the best futon choice for your dorm.
The first question you have is ‘what size is this futon?’ Well a twin sized bed is 39″ wide and 75″ long. The Kodiak lounger is 32″ wide and 60″ when the arms are folded up and 80″ when fully expanded. So it’s a little narrower than a twin but that is expected form a futon (and makes sense for your dorm). The length however is perfectly inline with a twin sized bed or a little larger so your feet don’t dangle. The height from the floor to the bottom of the frame is 9 inches.
Another issue which I’ve had with futons in the past is that they don’t support much weight. This futon holds about 400-500 lbs, but the manufacturer suggests that weight should be distributed evenly. Mainly because there are wooden slats on the underneath which go between the metal frame. Also don’t sit on the arms, they are meant to be extended. I would say easily 2 to 3 adults can sit on it.
Cleaning: You can remove the covers to clean in the washing machine.
New smell: A lot of futons when brand new have a weird chemical smell, but not this one, this one arrives smelling nice and new and not some chemical odor.
Comfort: The mattress is firm and very comfortable. On a scale from 1 – 10, with 1 being the softest I would rate this a 7. What I always do regardless of brand is buy those memory foam cushions and layer it over the futon, full sized bed sheets are perfect for these, I would highly suggest covering the futon to protect the main cushion.. I also do this to every bed I get. I say its good for a Netflix marathon and you should be fine sitting on it for hours.
Assembly: It’s very easy to put together and shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to do it by yourself. I wouldn’t hire anyone to do it. Tools are included.
Durability: Because of the design of this futon, it does not flatten over time like most.
